Sevilla director of football Victor Orta has again turned his attention to Paulo Fonseca, after trying to lure the manager to Leeds United during his time there.
That’s according to Estadio Deportivo, who cover Orta’s plans and how Fonseca is now very much in them once again.
They explain that Orta is planning a change of manager in the summer for Sevilla, with current incumbent Quique Sánchez Flores not the man he wants long-term.
A list of potential candidates is being drawn up by Orta and those in charge at the club, but the Spaniard has made it clear that Fonseca features prominently in his thinking.
He’s a long-term admirer of the current Lille coach, who is set to be a free agent in the summer as he doesn’t plan to renew with the French side according to reports in France.
His admiration for the Portuguese coach goes back to his time in charge at Leeds, where he held talks with him about potentially replacing Marcelo Bielsa. This is something Orta and Fonseca have both talked about publically, with the former explaining all in November.
Whether the pair can now unite in Spain remains to be seen, but it appears Orta is not giving up on an idea he formulated at Elland Road and now wants to see come to life at the Sanchez Pizjuan.
