On March 27th, Mundo Deportivo reported Manchester United can be a solution for Mikayil Faye and that Barcelona could sell him for €30m in the summer.
The 19-year-old is yet to make his first team debut since joining them from Croatian side NK Kustošija last summer. He’s been playing for the Barca reserve team and even scored a late winner against Osasuna on Sunday.
Sport mention Manchester United as an option for the centre-back when discussing the La Liga side’s plans for him.
Xavi Hernández has several options in the heart of defence and that makes it difficult for the youngster to make his way into the first team. Faye’s future will depend on Barca’s sporting leaders and the opinion of Xavi’s successor would also be considered.
If the Senegal international were to leave, RC Lens and OGC Nice would be willing to offer €10m for him. Sport add he’s also attracted interest from Germany and there’s been talk of interest from Manchester United in England.
Faye’s deal lasts until 2027 and has a €400m release clause. Xavi has opted for Pau Cubarsí ahead of him, and that bet has clearly paid off so far.
Therefore, Barcelona could decide to part ways with Faye, who is seen as an important asset. In the event of a transfer, the newspaper states they want to have control over the player.
In other words, Barcelona want to include a buyback option or allow Faye to leave through a paid loan deal.
It’s highly unlikely for Manchester United to agree to a buyback option, and they’re not really the level of club who should entertain such a deal.
