Aston Villa’s Youri Tielemans may find himself frustrated with Belgium again in the summer, with him and Arsenal’s Leandro Trossard likely to be replaced by Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne.
That’s according to journalist Peter Vandenbempt, who believes the Aston Villa and Arsenal stars will find themselves bumped out of the team once De Bruyne is fit again.
Tielemans was the star of the show for Belgium in the 2-2 draw with England this week, bagging both goals in the game in arguably one of his best performances for his country.
The display earned him widespread praise and led to plenty of pleasure in Belgium, where pundits, journalists and fans have been waiting for such a performance from the Aston Villa man for some time.
He appeared to have taken advantage of the absence of De Bruyne, who was not a part of the squad as he recovers from an injury at Manchester City.
Given this international break was one in which managers were looking at their squads ahead of Euro 2024, it was also the perfect time to put himself back on the radar.
Vandenbempt, though, believes he and Arsenal’s Trossard, may have to prepare themselves for disappointment when the Manchester City star is back fit in the summer.
“I was also pleased to see that Tielemans scored twice and played a good match for the national team,” he told Sporza.
“We were all waiting for that again. However, he will soon become a substitute again when De Bruyne returns. The same applies to Trossard.”
