Manchester United have become the latest club to be named as a contender for Barcelona youngster Mikayil Faye.
The 18-year-old has been representing Barça Atlètic since he joined the club from Croatian side NK Kustošija last summer. He’s scored three goals from 24 games so far and his form has caught the attention of other clubs.
Wednesday’s edition of Mundo Deportivo states Manchester United are included in this list.
Erik ten Hag’s side have had a mixed season so far and the report states the Red Devils believe the centre-back ‘will be the solution’ for one of their problems.
In the summer, the La Liga side have to raise funds through the sale of some of their players. The 19-year-old, who made his debut for Senegal this month, could be an option for the Catalan club to make money.
Faye hasn’t yet made his debut for Barca’s first team and Mundo claim he could help them collect around €30m in the summer.
There’s no mention of whether Manchester United are willing to pay this fee for Faye.
Meanwhile, claims elsewhere have stated that RC Lens have made a €9m proposal for the Senegalese defender.
This is relayed by Sport, who then state Faye has received sirens from Manchester United and Bayern Munich.
In all honestly, this feel like something of a daydream from the Catalan newspaper. The desperation around Barcelona to raise funds has seen some of those reporting on the club become even more loose with the truth.
They may wish to believe Manchester United are keen, and there’s a possibility that’s true, but no club is paying €30m for a 19-year-old defender who Barcelona haven’t believed is good enough to make his debut yet.
