While there has often been talk of Premier League clubs being interested Joshua Zirkzee, reports of Tottenham’s desire to sign the player have been fewer in numbers.
Whether that’s because they are trying to do their work away from the spotlight, only they know, but the interest appears to be there nonetheless, as explained by Corriere dello Sport.
The newspaper point out how many teams are keen on the Dutch striker, with AC Milan in need of someone like him, but so are Tottenham.
Spurs never directly replaced Harry Kane, who was sold to Bayern Munich last summer, as Ange Postecoglou agreed to work with the current squad and get the best out of them.
While Tottenham have done well and are great fun to watch, there is a feeling a proper striker is missing, which is what Zirkzee could bring to the table.
However, that number could increase if ‘Premier League clubs come into play’, which is where Tottenham are reported as having a ‘strong interest’ in the forward.
As previously reported elsewhere, those figures from Bologna are largely based on the fact Manchester United spent €75m or so on Rasmus Højlund last summer, who was of a similar age and had similar statistics to Zirkzee.
Whether they can hold off for that much, since Atalanta are in a less needy financial position, remains to be seen, but Tottenham are being warned that the striker will not be cheap.
