During the January transfer window, it looked like Atalanta were eventually going to sign Jordan James from Birmingham City, having been after the midfielder for a while.
However, the 19-year-old stayed at St Andrew’s to finish the season, with the Serie A side deciding against meeting the asking price set by the Blues midway through the campaign.
The interest hasn’t diminished, though, as Gazzetta dello Sport make it clear the Birmingham star remains a target for the Italians, who will be back in the coming months.
They recall Atalanta have been after James since the summer of 2023, and while they didn’t get him in the January transfer window, he will ‘finally return to being a target’ ahead of the 2024-25 campaign.
Atalanta have tried to negotiate that down ‘more than once’, but because the Championship are in a relegation battle, the belief is that figure ‘will be destined to drop’.
They explain the Wales international is ‘one of the most interesting midfielders are Europe, and that’s why Fiorentina have ‘also moved on him’.
Despite this, Atalanta have an advantage, having been after the Birmingham player for some time now, and there is a feeling the next summer transfer window will be the best time to finally get him.
