Having joined Juventus on loan from Southampton in the winter market, Carlos Alcaraz has clocked in 175 minutes from four games for the Serie A side. The midfielder was forced to miss the last two league game due to a hamstring injury and is still on the sidelines.
The Argentine moved to Europe for the first time when Southampton signed him from Racing Club in January 2023.
Speaking to Data Racing, relayed by TNT Sports, the Southampton owned player has talked about his desire to represent Argentina at the Paris Olympics in the summer.
Javier Mascherano’s Argentine U23 side have already qualified for the Olympics. The coach called up the 21-year-old for recent international breaks and he’s made an appearance each in October and November.
Alcaraz now remains hopeful of representing his country in Paris.
“Obviously I would like Mascherano to call me for the Olympic Games. I will always be there to defend the colours of Argentina. Today there are very good players, but I will always be waiting for a call from Javier or Scaloni,” he said.
The South American’s contract at Southampton lasts until 2028 and Juve have an option to make his stay permanent for €49.5m.
TyC Sports have also relayed additional quotes from the player, where he opened the door to returning to Racing in the future.
“I would love to come back. I don’t know if I’m going to be a reference like Diego [Milito] or Licha (López), but I’d like to return in the future. In Argentina, Racing is the club that gave me everything, it’s the one that has the priority and they’ll always have my yes,” Alcaraz explained.
