Ecuadorian side Independiente del Valle will receive $20m from Chelsea as part of their move for Moises Caicedo last summer.
That’s according to club director Franklin Tello, who has confirmed the Blues will be paying the impressive figure to his club as part of the FIFA Solidarity Scheme.
Caicedo joined Chelsea in a €116m deal from Brighton in the summer after establishing himself as a star in the making during his time with the Seagulls.
He found himself in the middle of a tug of war between Chelsea and Liverpool as a result, which ultimately pushed up his asking price beyond €100m and to the €116m that the Blues eventually paid for him.
While that was a super deal for Brighton, who had paid €28.2m to sign him from Independiente in February 2021, it was an even better deal for the Ecuadorian side.
Bolavip now report that Tello has confirmed Independiente del Valle ‘earned a fortune’ from the deal, with the club reporting on Thursday that they will receive $20m (€18.3m).
They’ve already made plans to spend that money, with $7m allocated to the construction of youth training centres is Esmeraldas and Santo Domingo. Both complexes are already under construction.
The rest of the money will potentially be spent on new signings to bolster the team, a ‘considerable increase’ on their usual annual budget.
It’s a similar story for Espoli de Santo Domingo, who will also receive $1m thanks to training Caicedo earlier in his career, a figure described as ‘inappropriate’ for a side who are a ‘modest second category club’ according to Bolavip.
Either way, they’re all thanking Chelsea, whose decision to spend a huge sum of money on Caicedo has certainly been very positive for them.
