It appears that Fabian Schär has lost his starting place in the Switzerland national team after the Newcastle United player held a conversation with his manager Murat Yakin.
That’s according to Yakin himself, who revealed what happened in England after he travelled to have a chat with the Magpies’ centre-back.
This is all relayed by Blick, who recall they had learned there was a chance the Newcastle defender could be excluded from the squad for the next international break, but that wasn’t to be the case.
He said: “It was an intensive exchange, open and honest. We haven’t discussed it like that before. He now knows his role. Of course he wants to play. We can’t allow ourselves to fall out within the national team. Fabian is now looking forward, let’s see how he accepts his role.”
Blick clarify the situation a bit and explain that his role will now to be ready if anything happens to either Manuel Akanji and Nico Elvedi, and ‘nothing more’.
In short, while the 32-year-old continues to be a regular at Newcastle under Eddie Howe, he will have to make do with being a rotation option for Switzerland going forward.
