For the past few weeks, we’ve been covering several stories from the Spanish media which have stated Rangers loanee Ianis Hagi is having a tough season on loan at Alavés.
Away from Philippe Clement’s squad, Hagi’s aim will have been to get a permanent move away from Rangers or impress the Glasgow club.
The Rangers midfielder has been struggling to prove himself in Spain, and even his place in the Romanian national squad may be on the line.
That’s why even his dad, Gheorghe Hagi, was now asked about the situation. And in quotes brought by Orange Sport in Romania, he came out in his son’s defence.
“Ianis comes after a year when he was injured. Before the new competition year, a few days before the transfer window closed, something happened at Rangers and he was surprised,” said Hagi.
“He reacted as best he could in a few days, he went to the second best championship in the world. He has played 21 games so far this competitive year. Keep in mind, after a year and a bit of injury, when a lot of people didn’t believe.”
“Ianis has a contract with Rangers, in the summer he returns there.
“He’s reached a level. I think Ianis’ level is top 3 in Romania in terms of international experience. He’s played abroad, he’s made it abroad, he’s got European cup matches.”
Innis Hagi’s father finished by claiming that his son is far too young for some people to think his career is now over, as he still has a long time to prove himself. He also remembered the importance that the midfielder once had at Rangers, with whom he’s lifted trophies, including the Scottish Premiership in the 2020/21 season.
“He has the future ahead of him, he’s 25. When I was 25, I went abroad. He’s already got more things than me. He won best player outside. He came out the best player, passer, in the whole league. How do you leave them out? All that’s gone? It’s a programmed manipulation.
“Ianis is a player for big games, he’s proven it 100%, since he was 16, he carries pressure. He’s a champion in the west. Rangers, watch out! Rangers, not just anyone! With the Rangers, he’s a champion!”
