Roberto De Zerbi’s success at Brighton & Hove Albion continues to be a big topic in Italy, especially with many people discussing why he never took charge of a top Serie A club.
We now get to see some claims that he did have the chance to be in charge of a major club. That comes from a report made by Voce Giallorossa.
It’s said that in Radio Serie A, his former assistant Andrea Bonatti revealed the now Brighton manager turned down an offer from AS Roma.
Bonatti was De Zerbi’s assistant in his first job as a first team manager, at Darfo Boario. The coach then went on to work at Foggia, Palermo, Benevento, Sassuolo, Shakhtar Donetsk and Brighton.
It’s now just a little unclear when Roma actually came for his signing, although it’s unlikely they tried to take him from the Premier League club.
The amusing part in all this is the fact the Seagulls are now set to face the Giallorossi in the Europa League.
They’re playing the round-of-16’s first leg in Italy on the 7th of March, and then have the decisive game in England a week later.
