Among the many recent rumours about who could replace Jürgen Klopp at Liverpool, we’ve recently seen the name of Sporting boss Ruben Amorim.
The Portuguese manager is said to be in the Reds’ list of potential options, even though he’s not expected to be one of the priorities.
Given that possibility, outlet Record today features a special story to talk about that, as they managed to interview João Carlos Teixeira, who left Sporting for Liverpool back in 2012, to discuss the differences between Amorim and Klopp.
The midfielder, who’s now playing in China, started by claiming that the two managers have very different forms of playing.
“Tactically they’re both different. They play differently, with Klopp in a 4-man defence and Rúben in a 3-man defence. Rúben has proved his worth and has done well in recent years, even though he’s young.
Then Teixeira claimed that Amorim would not have such a hard job adapting to England, although the Premier League could end up being a tricky destination.
“You adapt well because it’s a country where football works very well. In England everything is super organised and there’s no confusion. Everything is prepared in advance so that it runs smoothly. But it’s a difficult league for a coach to adapt to. You have to adapt to life, training and schedules.
“Above all, you have to adapt to the game and the new reality, which is very different from what happens not only in Portugal but in other countries. Even Guardiola, when he arrived in the Premier League, conceded a lot of goals on the counter-attack and had to adapt. The pace is different. You can have the game under control and from one moment to the next everything changes.”
João Carlos Teixeira joined Liverpool’s academy in 2012 and stayed at the club until 2016, when he left for Porto.
In that time with the Reds, he only made eight appearances, also having loans at Brentford and Brighton & Hove Albion.
He also played for Braga, Vitória Guimarães, Feyenoord, Famalicão, Umm Salal SC, until signing for Shanghai Shenhua.
