Despite Galatasaray currently sitting top of the Süper Lig, Okan Buruk is unlikely to be their manager next season, partly because of Tottenham midfielder Tanguy Ndombele.
It’s not entirely the player’s fault, but he has a role in it, as the manager’s inability to get the best out of the Spurs flop, which also applies to the likes of Wilfried Saha and Hakim Ziyech, has not impressed.
This is according to Fotospor, who have an article on the Galatasaray manager’s situation following the 4-1 loss to Sparta Prague, which saw them get knocked out of the Europa League.
The Tottenham midfielder isn’t part of that squad, since he has been out with an injury, but the dramatic loss to the Czech side led the club to have an urgent meeting, with the blame placed on Buruk.
There, he was blamed for the fact he wasn’t able to adapt ‘world stars’, such as Zaha, Tete, Ziyech and the Spurs midfielder.
When they didn’t perform, he was unable to find an alternative within the team and kept asking for transfers, and everything came crashing down when Mauro Icardi stopped scoring, as his ‘whole game system’ was built around the Argentine.
In short, despite a good run of games in the league, there is some disappointment surrounding Buruk and the fact that the deal for the Tottenham midfielder has failed to pay off, and the blind faith shown in the player by the manager isn’t paying off.
There have been calls for the 50-year-old to stop using Ndombele and favour some younger players, but he carries on bringing him on at the end of games for no particular reason.
Because of all this, there are some within the Süper Lig side who are saying that even if Galatasaray win the Süper Lig, Buruk will be removed as manager, with his contract expiring at the end of the season.
