It seems Tanguy Ndombele’s career could have been completely different, perhaps never involving Tottenham Hotspur, had a move to Turkey been agreed some years ago.
That’s revealed by Ozhan Pulat, who used to be an assistant coach and scout chief at Bursapor between 2015 and 2017.
Quoted by NTV Sport, he claimed that long before Ndombele joined Tottenham, he was nearly signed by the Turkish side for a very low price.
“We found a player called Tanguy Ndombele. He was playing for Amiens in France League 2. We went to the player’s dressing room and he was very keen to come to our club,” said Pulat.
“For €2.5m, we were able to finalise his transfer to Bursaspor. We had reached an agreement with his agent on everything, but the technical director at the time did not agree. Afterwards, Ndombele did very well at Lyon and Tottenham.”
Ndombele’s name has been a big topic in the Turkish media, as he’s been having a controversial loan from Tottenham at Galatasaray.
The midfielder has been struggling to get a place in their starting team, with his skills and physique getting often questioned by the local media.
Earlier this week, we’ve seen local claims saying he would have probably had his contract cancelled by now had he been at Besiktas, although he continues to get new chances at Galatasaray.
The whole situation makes it likely that he’ll return to Tottenham at the end of the season, with Spurs having to find a new solution as there’s still one year of contract left with them.
