Leeds United forward Wilfried Gnonto is one of the ‘obsessions’ for Sevilla director of football Victor Orta, but a deal is difficult if the Whites secure promotion back to the Premier League.
That’s according to Vamos Mi Sevilla and Estadio Deportivo, who say Orta is keen on a reunion with Gnonto if he can make it happen.
The latter explains that Orta has made it clear he is focusing on the English market in the first year of his time at Sevilla, with several signings already arriving to help bolster the squad.
One of the names linked in the January transfer window was Leeds United’s Gnonto and he remains one of Orta’s ‘obsessions’ moving forwards. However, he knows Sevilla’s only chance of a deal happening is if Leeds are not promoted, at which point they’d explore a loan deal.
Estadio back this up, explaining that Gnonto is ‘the signing that Sevilla wanted’ and their interest is not diminishing as he picks up form and impresses in recent weeks.
Orta and his team have already ‘showed their preferences’ for the Italian but a deal is difficult as it’s said he’s valued at €16m. That supposed price looks on the low side, but Sevilla couldn’t even pay that figure.
There’s no reason for Leeds United to rush into a sale or even a loan deal at this point, although failure to return to the Premier League may change that.
It’s a situation to keep an eye on in the near future, with potentially another summer of drama around Gnonto on the cards if Leeds don’t get promoted.
