Despite spending eight years of his lengthy career at Tottenham, Jan Vertonghen has never felt as much pressure as he does these days.
The centre-back is currently with RSC Anderlecht in his home country of Belgium after moving there in 2022 from Benfica on a free transfer.
The 36-year-old was brought in to bring experience to the squad, where they have struggled to repeat the previous heights they maintained at the top of the Jupiler Pro League table.
DH have an article on the matter on Monday, where they look at the club’s situation, and explain that neither Tottenham fans nor those of Borussia Dortmund are as impatient as the ones of Anderlecht.
Thorgan Hazard, who also play there, recently commented that while Dortmund supporters had their limits, those at Anderlecht are ‘quicker to whistle’.
That’s when DH provide the view of Vertonghen, with sources telling DH that he felt the same way about Tottenham fans and their patience before booing or whistling.
He reportedly said: “Never in my career have I felt as much pressure from my own fans as I have done at Anderlecht.”
An interesting anecdote considering the highs and lows Tottenham went through between 2012 and 2020, but there’s no denying that after dominating for so long in Belgium, Anderlecht fans are a bit fed up of the recent downturn in fortune their club have suffered, last wining the league in 2017.
