On February 2nd, Sheffield United announced that Ismaila Coulibaly will join Swedish side AIK Fotboll on a loan deal until the summer.
At the weekend, AIK started the new season with a 3-1 win over Örebro Sportklubb, and the 23-year-old wasn’t part of the squad.
According to Fotbollskanalen, the Sheffield United man hasn’t even arrived in Sweden yet.
The Swedish transfer window opened at the start of this month and closes on March 28th, meaning AIK still have time to reshape their squad.
After the win over Örebro, AIK sporting director Thomas Berntsen talked about his side’s transfer plans and also shared an update about the Sheffield United owned player. He says the Mali international will join his new teammates on Monday.
“He will land tomorrow [Monday]. It has been solved with visas. He’s been training with Sheffield United until now so we expect him to be in good shape. We look forward to him being with us in training from Tuesday,” he said.
Coulibaly was restricted to only one appearance this season and that came in the Blades’ EFL Cup defeat to Lincoln City last August. A temporary move will give him the opportunity to feature regularly in the coming months.
When asked if the player is ready to represent AIK, Berntsen was very positive: “Yes, he’s ready to play.”
