Chelsea defender Ian Maatsen has insisted his ‘options are open’ for the summer transfer window as he eyes a permanent switch to Borussia Dortmund.

That’s according to RUHR 24, who cover recent comments from the Dutchman as he enjoys himself on loan in Germany.

Maatsen joined Dortmund on loan in the January transfer window following a frustrating few months at Chelsea where he struggled for gametime under Mauricio Pochettino.

He returned to Stamford Bridge in the summer following a successful loan spell at Burnley, where he was a key player during their promotion from the Championship.

The belief had been that he would join the Clarets on a permanent basis but that deal never happened and he instead returned to Chelsea but found himself out of the picture.

Thus, he joined Dortmund in the hope of getting regular playing time and he’s found that, with five appearances in the Bundesliga so far and 100% of the available minutes under his belt.

It’s something he’s clearly happy about, with RUHR 24 reporting him saying that “we’ll see after the season” and “my options are open” when asked about a possible stay in the summer after BVB’s 4-0 win at 1. FC Köln. They add that ‘he would like to come back’, taking his statements as an indication of such.

Whether a deal can be done remains to be seen, but with Chelsea needing to bring in money from sales, it’s certainly a situation to keep an eye on.
