Newcastle United face competition from Bayern Munich to sign VfB Stuttgart striker Serhou Guirassy in the summer but may have one major advantage over the German giants.
That’s according to Christian Falk, who says it is debatable whether the striker will join a side where he will constantly be second fiddle to Harry Kane.
Guirassy has long been linked with a move away from Stuttgart after shining in the first half of the season, chasing down Kane in the Bundesliga goalscoring charts.
He had been expected to leave in January, but no clubs decided to activate his release clause, meaning attention now turns to the summer.
Newcastle are one of the sides who have long been in the mix for him, with it explained at the end of December they had come knocking to ask about the striker.
That didn’t lead to a move, but the interest was there, particularly with him available for as little as €20m in the summer.
That’s a price tag which is also tempting Bayern, according to Falk, with him reporting that the German champions are very much interested in a deal for the striker.
The big question, though, is whether the striker will want to go to a club where Harry Kane ‘always plays’ and will remain first choice for the forseeable future.
The suggestion is that he will not and would prefer to head somewhere else, potentially putting Newcastle at an advantage in the race.
They have Alexander Isak and Callum Wilson at present but there are suggestions the former could be sold to help balance the books while the latter struggles to be fit throughout an entire campaign.
Thus, playing time could be plentiful for the likes of Guirassy, who, at least as far as Falk is concerned, may value that highly.
