It’s now been a few months since Moussa Djenepo left Southampton for Standard Liege, who invested €3.5m on his signing.
Since his return to the Belgian club, the midfielder has made 19 appearances, having started in most of their games this season, but has failed to produce either a goal or an assist.
If that isn’t bad enough, we now see a report from DH in Belgium claiming there had been some doubts about his physical shape during the process of his move from Southampton.
The article state that while Djenepo had his medicals ahead of signing for Standard Liege, some sources close to the club claim he ‘failed’ part of the tests.
It’s said the club’s medical staff expressed their ‘serious reservations’ about his signing, especially with the transfer being a big investment for the Belgian club.
Still, Standard Liege insisted on his arrival, and so far, Djenepo has been proving to be holding up physically to help them this season, even if the output hasn’t been there.
The forward had been purchased by Southampton on a €15.7m deal back in 2018, and left the Saints with five assists and five goals in 91 appearances.
