Aston Villa have decided to ‘test the waters’ for Inter Milan’s Denzel Dumfries ahead of a possible bid to rival Manchester United for him.
That’s according to FC Inter News, who say Aston Villa have been in touch with the player’s agents to test the possibility of a move to Villa Park.
They explain that while Inter are busy planning for the future by signing players or sorting out contracts, there has been no agreement with Dumfries, whose deal expires in 2025.
There is currently no dialogue between them and his representatives, the Wasserman group, because the gap between the two parties is too big and has been made bigger by the end of the Growth Decree tax scheme in Italy.
Bayern and Manchester United had reportedly been the interested parties but Sacha Boey’s arrival in Bavaria has left the latter on their own, with Erik ten Hag said to be a big fan of his compatriot and the ‘main sponsor’ for the signing.
However, ‘to the joy’ of Inter, Aston Villa have also ‘tested the waters’ with Dumfries’ agents as Unai Emery starts to plan for next season and thinks big.
For now, they are just making first approaches and there’s every chance it’ll come to nothing, but Inter’s hope is that Aston Villa are serious and can kick up an auction with Manchester United to rise Dumfries’ price and bring in much-needed funds to the club in the process.
