Real Madrid are at a ‘crossroads’ over what to do with Chelsea loanee Kepa Arrizabalaga, with no definitive decision made on him as yet.

That’s according to Faro de Vigo, who cover the player today and how Andrei Lunin’s performances in Kepa’s place have led to questions being asked about a potential permanent transfer.

They explain that Lunin has taken over from Kepa in recent weeks and proven his worth, so much so that Carlo Ancelotti has had to back down from his initial desire to completely back the Chelsea goalkeeper.

If Lunin continues to perform as he has been doing, he will remain first choice while Thibaut Courtois is out injured but that’s generated a problem for the Real Madrid executives.

They now need to decide who goes in the summer when Courtois returns. At the moment it would be Lunin, but he’s made it clear he wants regular game time and that isn’t going to be on offer at the Bernabeu.

Real Madrid’s chiefs are yet to decide whether they should spend the summer ‘negotiating’ with Chelsea over a purchase option for Kepa or going down a different path. Hence, they’re at a ‘crossroads’.

It’s the latest turn in the road for this particular loan deal, which started well but seems to have become something of a problem for all the parties involved in recent weeks.
