The Spanish press are absolutely convinced Erling Haaland wants to leave Manchester City this summer, and they’re not letting it go.
Reports this week claimed Haaland is miserable in Manchester and wants to swap it for Spain, something Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola responded to this week with some tongue in cheek comments.
Rather than dampening any fire, though, those comments have elicited a response from the Spanish press, with Madrid fan sites Bernabeu Digital and Defensa Central stepping forward today.
The latter first cover comments from journalist Josep Pederol, who responded to Guardiola’s comments on Haaland in an editorial for El Chiringuito.
Focusing specifically on Guardiola’s comment that “maybe the press in Spain has more information than we do” he stated “Hey, neither the Madrid press, nor the Spanish press have a clause to leave, (but) he (Haaland) does…”
DC pick up on that and explain that according to them Haaland does have exit clauses for this season and the next, but that doesn’t mean he’s absolutely leaving Manchester City for Real Madrid.
Indeed, according to them the Spanish giants are focused on Kylian Mbappé, so they’re not committing to anything.
Bernabeu Digital, meanwhile, state that Guardiola is simply trying to turn focus elsewhere as he’s more than aware Haaland is ‘constantly talking’ about going to Real Madrid.
The good relationship his agent, Rafaela Piments, has with the Real Madrid board is another of the factors fuelling a possible transfer, as well as the fact the player is ‘in love’ with Spain and spends a lot of time in Marbella.
He, as far as they’re concerned, absolutely wants the transfer but Guardiola is resisting, and insisting that it is ‘more of a theory than a palpable reality’.
Of course, this all comes from Madrid so take it all with a pinch of salt, but it seems Guardiola’s efforts to pour cold water onto the Haaland reports convinced absolutely nobody in Spain this week.
