In the early days of the transfer window, there were multiple reports, especially from Spain, which explained Tottenham’s Bryan Gill was tired of loans and would rather settle somewhere long term.
It was even explained that could see him stay at Spurs until the end of the current season, rather than going to a club which didn’t really see him as crucial for their long term aims, but rather as a relatively cheap chance to take for the final months of the season.
Gil, who is still just 22-years-of-age, had loans out to Leganes and Eibar when he was still owned by Sevilla. Since being at Tottenham he’s been sent on loan to Valencia and then back to Sevilla, with both temporary stays lasting for less than half a season.
Wanting some stability would be understandable. However, those kind of moves are usually reserved for the summer or at least not the final week of the January window.
Sunday’s edition of Gazzetta dello Sport reports Gil ‘leaps to pole’ for Lazio and is ‘top of the list’ for the Rome club.
The famous old Italian newspaper states: ‘Gil can arrive on loan without obligation to buy, a formula which, in addition to not affecting the budget, would allow the Biancoceleste club to have free hands for the summer transfer market.’
Bluntly, that means they can dump Gil and move on to other targets when the season comes to an end. It would take performances of a fantasy level for Lazio to pay what Tottenham would want should the Spaniard do well.
After less than 250 minutes for Ange Postecoglou’s side so far this season, there’s a reason to change… but it probably shouldn’t have been in quite this way, again.
