Moises Caicedo’s agent, Manuel Sierra, has admitted that Chelsea paying over €100m to sign his client was and never will be ‘normal’.
The agent has been speaking to AS about his start client after a busy year and his record breaking move to Chelsea in the summer transfer window.
Caicedo made the move to Stamford Bridge in a €116m deal from Brighton after a summer of speculation about his future and a battle with Liverpool for his signature.
The midfielder had become hot property after his performances for Brighton, something which had also seen his value and asking price continue to rise and rise.
It was eventually Chelsea who won the race for his signature, sanctioning a €116m deal for the midfielder, the biggest transfer in the history of the Premier League and officially the ninth most expensive transfer in the history of football.
Chelsea have spent over a billion pounds on transfer since his arrival as owner, but it seems Sierra is less than impressed by such sums being bandied around football.
“It’s like anything in life, when you’re involved in war, in battle, in everyday life and so on, you don’t realize the numbers we’re talking about, the numbers we’re saying,” he said.
“It is becoming more and more normal to see these astronomical amounts. No, it’s not normal. Paying those amounts of money is not normal.
“But right now, football is like this, it demands it, and the big teams are spending these barbarities. Without going any further, for example, what Real Madrid did with Bellingham, what they are talking about with Mbappé or Neymar back in the day.
“These are things that in the end have become normal for the big stars or for the elite players.”
