On Tuesday, Victor Osimhen, currently with Nigeria at the Africa Cup of Nations, spoke to the media and made it clear he would be leaving Napoli in the next few months.

That was always going to be this summer, as the Serie A side would have no intention of letting him leave midway through the campaign, but Chelsea will have listened to those words with delight.

After all, the Blues have struggled for goals this season with just Armando Broja as a recognised number nine in their squad, and Gazzetta dello Sport reckon Osimhen will likely be on his way to Stamford Bridge.

They relay his quotes first, where he said he had ‘already made a decision for next summer’, and immediately name Chelsea as a destination.

Gazzetta explain the Premier League side are ready to cover him ‘with gold’ and ‘pay the clause’ that is in his contract for next summer.

Napoli will ask Osimhen to continue to score goals between now and the end of the season, but they know that it will then be ‘goodbye and thank you’.

That’s because the €130m clause in his contract that both he and his entourage wanted is there to ‘free themselves’ of the Serie A side, and was designed ‘precisely for the escape to the Premier League’.

In short, the belief from Gazzetta is Osimhen is most likely on his way to Chelsea as long as they put the money on the table.
