Aston Villa’s attempt to sign Hákon Rafn Valdimarsson from Elfsborg is now backed up by the Swedish media.
Following recent reports saying Unai Emery’s side are keen on the 22-year-old, Aftonbladet now claims to have confirmed the information.
The Swedish outlet even managed to speak to the Aston Villa target, who ended up claiming he’s a very wanted man in the transfer window.
“There is interest from many clubs right now. We will see what happens. I listen to the alternatives.”
Valdimarsson was then specifically asked about Aston Villa, and he had some compliments for the English club.
“It’s big. It’s a top club in the Premier League and they play very well. It’s great to see that they are interested. It shows that I have played well last season.”
Afonbladet points out the competition Valdimarsson would have at Aston Villa, given that they already have Emiliano Martínez and Robin Olsen for the goalkeeping position, but the youngster insists he’d be excited to have the chance to work with such experienced players.
“That could be it. It’s top players, it’s the highest quality of everything. Training with some of the world’s best players is developmental.”
The goalkeeper then weighed up a couple of his options.
“FCK (who are also interested) is also a big club. They have played in the Champions League two years in a row. It is probably Scandinavia’s biggest team. It’s not as big as the Premier League but would still be a good step up.”
Aftonbladet also managed to speak to Elfsborg chief Stefan Andreasson, who said there’s actually some more competition for Valdimarsson’s signing.
“There are many clubs that have shown interest in Hakon Valdimarsson.
“That’s how it is. It sometimes feels like he has grown out of the Allsvenskan costume, but that does not mean that it is obvious that he will move. There is a lot that has to be right.”
The outlet also takes claims from the Danish BT which state Elfsborg are demanding just under £2.25m for the player.
