Brought in on loan by Tottenham during the 2021-22 season, Pierluigi Gollini was widely considered a flop at Spurs.
He only ever made 10 appearances for the club, conceding 11 goals, and only kept two clean sheets during that time, spending most of his time on the bench.
That being said, he doesn’t appear to regret the move, as he explained to Sport Mediaset, relayed by Pianeta Napoli, in an interview where he opened up about his role as a backup, now at Napoli sitting behind Alex Meret.
Of course, Tottenham had Hugo Lloris in great form between the sticks at that time, and he knows that it was always going to be a battle to dethrone the Frenchman, who has since been replaced by Guglielmo Vicario.
He said: “In your career, in life, you have to make choices. When I went to Tottenham, I chose to go to a big club to play my cards, just as I did here at Napoli. I feel good here, I’m happy. It’s obviously clear that when you play multiple games in a row, the difference can be felt.
“Playing is important. When you play 4-5 games in a row, it’s different than when you play every two months. I know my qualities, and the stages I’ve played on, but I am happy to be in an important club like Napoli.”
Since joining Napoli, the player has made 10 appearances, the same as his time at Tottenham, but has conceded 14 goals, keeping one extra clean sheet (3).
