Having been in search of a right-back all January, Bayern Munich have once again turned their attention to the Premier League, this time Newcastle United, after the signing of Eric Dier.
This is courtesy of Florian Plettenberg on X, formerly Twitter, who reports that Kieran Trippier is now a target for the German side.
He explains that Bayern are ‘interested’ in the Newcastle full-back, since there is still no green light from Paris Saint-Germain in their efforts to get Nordi Mukiele on loan.
Those in charge of transfers at the Bavarian side have apparently ‘discussed’ the possibility of signing then 33-year-old over the past couple of days.
In fact, the belief a potential deal for the Newcastle veteran is ‘hot’ because the feeling is a ‘straight loan is possible’ for the player.
By comparison, Galatasaray want a fee for a permanent transfer if they are to let Sacha Boey leave, meaning Trippier is a more enticing option for a short-term move.
The idea that Newcastle would let their starting right-back and sometimes captain leave on loan is a bit of a strange one, but this could also be a chance for Toni Livramento to get more time on the pitch once he recovers from his illness after the Magpies spent €37.2m to sign him from Southampton last summer.
