Last week, we saw Arsenal calling Marquinhos back from his loan spell at Nantes. The winger only had 150 minutes played for the French side, and it now remains to be seen where he’ll spend the rest of the season.

The 20-year-old is currently out with Brazil’s Pre-Olympic squad, and Globo Esporte today features an interview he gave to local journalists.

Marquinhos first made it clear that he asked Nantes to be available for the national team this month, having spoken to many people about his wish.

“It’s always very special to wear the shirt of the national team, I think every player has to have that desire to wear the heaviest shirt in the world. I spoke to the coach, the president, about my desire to wear the national team shirt, about my dream of qualifying for the next Olympics and being there. I positioned myself within the club so that I could be here and defend Brazil,” said Marquinhos.

Now when returning to Europe at the end of the tournament, he’s set to go to Arsenal, and he’s eager to join the Gunners’ squad once again.

“I’m very focused on having a great Pre-Olympic, to return to Arsenal confident, to continue the work there, and God willing, to be at the next Olympics.”

It should be up to Arsenal whether to loan Marquinhos again or keep him in the squad for the remainder of the season.

Earlier this week, we saw Chelsea youngster Andrey Santos claiming he’d play the Pre-Olympic tournament and then decide where his future would lie.

That seems to be the same case with the Gunners’ player, as some clubs may get interested in his performances with Brazil.
