Newcastle United are part of an ‘ongoing assault’ for Atalanta’s Ederson Dos Santos Da Silva but need a big offer to convince the Italians to sell.
That’s according to Quotidiano Sportivo, who say the midfielder has ‘suddenly become the object of desire’ for Newcastle and Juventus.
They explain that Newcastle are eyeing up the Brazilian as a replacement for the suspended Sandro Tonali, while Juventus need replacements for their suspended duo Paul Pogba and Nicolo Fagioli.
The interest from the Magpies is nothing new, with a report yesterday indicating they are in constant contact about a potential move.
They’re willing to discuss a deal in June and have made it clear that only a bid above €40m would tempt them this month, despite Juventus being willing to put €30m on the table now.
Newcastle are stated as having ‘infinite financial ability’ and could match that €40m figure but are ‘exploring other alternative options’ at this moment in time.
That, though, is in direct contradiction to what the Magpies themselves are saying, with them admitting this week they may need to sell stars before they can buy so they can meet FFP and the Premier League’s own financial regulations. Thus a €40m move for Ederson is unlikely at this point.
However, with Bruno Guimaraes being heavily linked with a move away and PSG in the mix for him, perhaps that is where their money could come from.
Indeed, Ederson, who QS describe as a defensive midfielder ‘good at recovering the ball’ but also ‘invaluable’ going forward could be an ideal replacement for his compatriot at St James Park.
