Manchester United are today suggested as a destination for Ajax striker Brian Brobbey.
The claims come from the Dutch media, where journalist Mike Verweij had been speaking on the Kick-Off podcast about the centre-forward’s future.
Quoted by SoccerNews, the pundit explains that Brobbey’s intention is to leave Ajax for over the €16m fee that the club paid to sign him from RB Leipzig in 2022.
It’s said that the striker has a plan regarding the type of club he’d like to join, and that’s why Verweij believes Manchester United would be a good option for him.
“After Ajax, Brobbey does not want to go to the absolute top, but just below the top. Then Manchester United would be a very good one at the moment. That also seems very sensible to me. If a club like Real Madrid were to come, I do think he would say yes, but he has it in his head that the absolute top might not be a very good idea yet.”
Brobbey was part of Ajax’s academy, and despite his time in Germany, he returned to the club in 2022. He’s had decent numbers since then, with 14 goals and four assists in the 2022/23 season, and now with 12 goals and four assists in 24 appearances in the current season.
Manchester United, who made a big investment in Rasmus Hojlund last summer, are still said to be looking for options for their attack, and given Erik ten Hag’s strong connections to the Eredivisie side, that wouldn’t be a crazy story.
