Mixed claims over formula of latest Manchester United deal – Player may not be leaving permanently

There’s now some disagreement in Portugal regarding Alvaro Fernandez’s transfer from Manchester United to Benfica.

Earlier today, we covered a report from O Jogo which said the fullback was moving in a €10m deal, and it was only being decided whether that’d be an outright purchase or a loan with an obligatory buy at the end of the season.

It turns out that as Mais Futebol and Radio Renascença now report the deal between Benfica and Manchester United, they say it’s actually a different formula.

It’s claimed that the Eagles are landing Fernandez on a loan deal, and will just have an option to buy him at the end of the season. The amount for that potential purchase isn’t even mentioned.

We’d say that’s actually more believable, mostly because there’s no guarantee he settles in immediately at Benfica, and it would make sense for them to try him out before committing a lot of money to him.

Either way, we should soon see the confirmation from the Portuguese club, who appear to be wasting no time in getting a deal for the Manchester United player over the line.
