On Thursday evening, Tottenham Hotspur confirmed they have completed the signing of Radu Drăgușin from Genoa.
The defender completed the medical tests on Wednesday but the announcement was delayed because of the Serie A side.
That’s according to Digi Sport, who state the 21-year-old took time to close his account with Genoa before sealing a move to Tottenham.
The Romania international was entitled to receive bonuses, which Genoa have ‘refused’ to pay. The report adds he ‘gave up the money’ in order to complete a move to Spurs.
Ange Postecoglou’s side reportedly paid around €25m plus €6m bonuses for the centre-back and have allowed Djed Spence to join the Italian club on a loan deal. Genoa paid €5.5m plus bonuses to buy Drăgușin and have now made a big profit from his sale.
Genoa’s refusal to pay bonuses hasn’t pleased the former Juventus man’s agent, Florin Manea, who made his feelings public, just before Spurs made his client’s transfer official.
“There were some details to work out with Genoa. They have been resolved and we will announce Radu soon at Tottenham. He had some bonuses to take at Genoa. I was amazed by that, but it doesn’t matter,” he told Digi Sport.
“They took €30m and are negotiating at several tens of thousands. The documents are signed. He has to sign them too. They’re going to let him know. He made yesterday’s visit. I was waiting at 9am for him to let him know, but I slept. I told you what the problem was. If they signed, they had to give him the bonuses.”
Manea had earlier revealed that Bayern Munich offered Drăgușin a better salary than the one proposed by Tottenham but he snubbed them to join Spurs.
Apart from rejecting an opportunity to earn more, the Romanian had to give up money to arrive at Tottenham, where he has signed a deal until 2030.
