Wolves have ‘taken the lead’ for signing – One of 2 clubs pushing ahead of pack

Three days ago, L’Equipe reported Wolverhampton Wanderers have made the first move to sign Paris Saint-Germain’s Hugo Ekitike in the winter market.

On Wednesday, the same source explained the Premier League side are trying to convince the striker to join them over other clubs.

A new report from L’Equipe provides the latest on Wolves’ pursuit of the 21-year-old.

Since coming off the bench against FC Lorient last August, he hasn’t made an appearance for the French club. It’s claimed PSG’s ‘main objective’ is to get rid of him this month.

VfL Wolfsburg have come forward in the last few hours to take the Frenchman on a loan deal without an option to buy. However, there are two clubs who have ‘taken the lead’ in the transfer race and they are Wolves and Eintracht Frankfurt.

It’s claimed Gary O’Neil’s side have a good relationship with the PSG leaders and continue to discuss the feasibility of bringing Ekitike to Molineux in January.

Wolves will face competition from Eintracht Frankfurt, who have returned for him after last summer’s failure.

On Wednesday, the German club’s officials were confident of getting a deal over the line in the next few days. Ekitike would also welcome a move to Eintracht Frankfurt as he feels the Bundesliga side suits profile.

Wolves have to find a way to convince the frontman if they wish to secure his services.
