Having arrived at Barcelona and played his first two games, Vitor Roque now has to show why the La Liga club paid €40m for him, and why he decided to snub Manchester City.
That’s according to journalist Xavi Torres for Esport3, relayed by Sport in Spain, who explained the reasons why the young Brazilian forward decided to snub a move to Pep Guardiola’s side, choosing Catalonia instead.
It’s made clear from the off that Manchester City ‘offered him much more money’ than Barcelona, but the 18-year-old chose heart over wallet, since it was his ‘great dream’ to don the blaugrana shirt.
Despite the enticing offer from the Premier League club, he stood strong, telling them: “Thank you, but I prefer Barça.”
Torres pointed out that while Manchester City don’t ‘always get it right’ with their signings, the fact they were interested in Roque suggests Barcelona have made the right choice in signing him.
After all, the Cityzens have enjoyed some success with young South Americans coming to the club at a young age, with players such as Gabriel Jesus and Julian Alvarez shining almost instantly.
