Paris Saint-Germain have made Newcastle United’s Bruno Guimarães as a ‘priority’ target, according to ESPN in Brazil.
The midfielder has starred for the Magpies ever since he joined them from Lyon two years ago and Eddie Howe’s side have rewarded him with a new deal [until 2028] last October.
That hasn’t stopped PSG from considering an approach for the Newcastle player.
The Brazil international is managed by Giuliano Bertulucci who has a good ties with PSG advisor Luis Campos. The agent, who also manages both Lucas Beraldo and Gabriel Moscardo, recently helped the French club complete their signings.
These factors have seen PSG look for an experienced midfielder this season, and this is where Guimarães would fit in. There are two obstacles that need to be overcome to carry out the deal.
It’s claimed the former Lyon man has a £100m clause and this is the first obstacle. If PSG were to pay this full amount, the report states ‘there is little’ Newcastle can do to retain him. The second is to do with their owners.
Newcastle are owned by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund while Qatar’s QSI own the Paris club. The report states there’s rivalry between the two investment funds, although their relationship has improved after the Qatar World Cup.
PSG have been monitoring Guimarães for a long time, but ESPN make no mention of whether he’s willing to leave Newcastle, either this month or next summer.
