Brighton & Hove Albion’s Deniz Undav has starred for VfB Stuttgart since he joined them on loan last summer.
The striker missed the start of the season due to an injury and since regaining full fitness, he has scored 10 goals and registered three assists from 15 games.
This has convinced the German club to make an effort to make the Brighton man’s stay permanent by exercising the purchase option. That’s according to Bild, who share more details on the fee needed to buy the 27-year-old.
It’s said the fixed fee of the purchase option is set at €18m and this will rise to €20m if the Bundesliga side qualify for Europe. They are currently third in the table, seven points ahead of fifth placed Borussia Dortmund.
Last month, Stuttgart sporting director Fabian Wohlgemuth insisted his side are working on the possibility of retaining Undav.
Stuttgart CEO Alexander Wehrle has become the latest official to discuss the possibility of extending the Brighton owned player’s stay beyond this season.
“We are able to act and be competitive at all times. Deniz settled in very quickly at VfB and is an important player for us. We can well imagine seeing him in our ranks in the future too,” he said.
Bild state Stuttgart want to reduce the fee during the upcoming negotiations with Undav’s agent and Roberto De Zerbi’s side in the next few months. If he were to continue to shine, the report says Brighton are unlikely to help.
