Sevilla are ‘hot, hot, hot’ for West Ham United midfielder Pablo Fornals, but confusion reigns over his contract situation at the London Stadium.
That’s according to Estadio Deportivo, who cover the player today and whether he could be making a return to Spain in the January transfer window.
They first cover comments from Sevilla vice-president José María del Nido Carrasco who confirmed that the club are ‘restless’ ahead of the January window and looking to do business, both in and out of Sanchez Pizjuan.
When asked about priorities, he confirmed that adding to the midfield was among them and Estadio add that Fornals is ‘hot, hot, hot’ on that front despite a recent renewal with West Ham.
According to their information that Hammers midfielder is a ‘new goal’ for director of football Victor Orta, even if reports in England have recently claimed he’s renewed his deal until 2025.
Doubts had arisen about him though as reports in England stated West Ham had activated a clause to extend his deal, which was expiring in 2024, to 2025.
That would of course make him less attainable, but Estadio have contacted the player’s representatives and they’ve ‘neither confirmed nor denied such information’. In other words, they’re remaining silent, potentially hoping to keep the market around the player alive.
That may be part of a greater strategy involving West Ham, with Estadio speculating they may have only activated their clause to ensure ‘they get some money’ from Sevilla and other suitors either in January or the summer.
Whether they could get any money from financially troubled Sevilla is up for debate but they’re certainly in the mix and considering a move, even if his agents are refusing to comment.
