Striker Deniz Undav may end up costing loan club VfB Stuttgart more money than expected as his transfer clause is flexible given how this season goes.
That’s according to BILD, who cover the player today and how he may end up costing the Germans more than they anticipated.
Undav joined Stuttgart on loan in the summer from Brighton after a difficult year at Brighton following a move from Union SG in June 2022.
The loan has proven to be a smart one for all parties, with the striker already bagging eight goals and two assists in 12 Bundesliga games so far and another goal in the DFB Pokal.
That’s all-good news for Brighton who included a purchase clause in the deal taking him to Stuttgart that can increase the better he performs.
BILD explain that the clause is ‘not entirely simple’ as rather than being valued at a simple €12m, which had been reported elsewhere, it’s actually around €18m. That figure can also increase if Stuttgart qualify for the Champions League, or, more unrealistically, win the title.
The plan is to negotiate with Brighton and Undav’s agents to try and bring that price down, but those aren’t expected to start until the Spring.
The problem with that is if Undav keeps scoring and thus keeps Stuttgart towards the top of the table, the clause will continue rising and Brighton will be less likely to agree to a reduced fee.
The feeling is that his price on the open market ‘will probably be significantly higher’ than the €12m quoted already, with his performances continuing to help increase it.
