Everton winger Arnaut Danjuma could be a potential target for Ajax, as he’d be an option to replace Steven Bergwijn should he depart.
That’s according to De Telegraaf journalist Mike Verweij, who believes he could be a name that is looked at should Bergwijn end up leaving.
The current Ajax winger has been linked with a move away from the club in the January transfer window, with West Ham reportedly interested in the Premier League and clubs in Saudi Arabia also contemplating a move.
Should he go, it would leave a hole in Ajax’s current squad that would need to be filled and Verweij believes Danjuma could be a name worth looking at.
He’s barely featured under Sean Dyche this season, though, who has settled on Dwight McNeill on the left wing and Jack Harrison on the right, a decision that’s proven to be a smart one so far.
That’s something Ajax could use to their advantage according to Verweij, who thinks Danjuma is an option to be looked at if Bergwijn does go.
“He mainly sits on the bench at Everton,” he said.
“Perhaps that would also be a very good thing for Ajax, if Bergwijn were to leave in the winter. He has already been linked to Ajax a few times.
“And Ajax also had the chance to get him once. And they didn’t. Then he left for Belgium. So maybe it’s also a good one for Ajax.
“He played really well for the Dutch national team once. Then you thought: Well, he’s going to break through. He did well at Villarreal for a while but ended up sidetracked. And now at Everton…”
