Back in the summer window, many outlets in Brazil reported that Brentford were fighting to sign São Paulo fullback Welington.
At the time it was claimed that the Bees couldn’t reach the Tricolor’s asking price, and that ended with the player staying in South America.
It turns out that Welington’s contract with São Paulo expires at the end of next year, and Globo Esporte now writes about the situation.
It’s recalled that Brentford had been one of the clubs who were chasing him last summer, but there’s no information on whether they’re still interested.
This situation could certainly put São Paulo in a tough spot, as they may feel forced to sell the player to avoid losing him for free in the future.
So if Brentford’s offer wasn’t enough back then, perhaps it’s worth trying again in the January window, especially because that’s the Brazilian off-season.
