West Ham may now regret not having signed Yacine Brahimi last summer. It wasn’t only West Ham linked, Everton made moves to get a deal done.
Heavily linked to the player at the start of the season, the Everton and West Ham started showing their interest when the winger wasn’t living a very good time for Porto.
He’s been impressing match after match, and after being the best man on the pitch during Saturday’s game against Belenenses, it’s now reported Porto will get a bigger percentage of his fee.
As reported by A Bola, Porto paid €6.5m for Brahimi’s transfer from Granada back in 2014.
Then they sold 80% of the player’s rights to Doyen Sports for €5m. A decision which they obviously regretted, because the club paid €3.8m a year later to get back 30%.
So they now own 50% of the player, and are currently in negotiations to buy the other half. The problem is Doyen are only willing to sell 25%, and for €4.7m.
Why all of this mess? Because Porto are obviously thinking of their future, as it won’t take long until a club shows up making a big offer for the player.
As pointed out by A Bola, Brahimi has a €60m release clause, and it’s a good idea for Porto to get a larger share. It’s unlikely West Ham, Everton, or anyone else, would go as high as €60m for the 27 year old, but Porto will now be more hopeful than some months ago.
West Ham watched Porto’s match at the weekend, and saw Brahimi excel, Everton haven’t been regulars at the club this season. There’s every possibility that the difficult in pleasing both Porto and Doyen say Everton walk away, whereas West Ham don’t seem to have been put off.
