In March, Catalan newspaper Sport reported Tottenham were trying to lower Espanyol’s expectations of a Pau Lopez fee. Tottenham have a clause to buy Pau for €7m in the summer window, and if they send him back to Espanyol they’ll pay a fee of €500k for not going through with the deal.
There’s also the balancing act for Espanyol: At what figure, in terms of the price Tottenham are trying to go down to, does it become a better idea to take Pau, and €500k, back?
Now Sport believe Pau will leave Espanyol and join Tottenham ‘for at least €5m’, which could see a discount of €2m for Spurs.
Pau Lopez is expected by the Catalan media to be Tottenham’s second choice goalkeeper next summer, behind Hugo Lloris. Michel Vorm would then likely leave the club.
