Cadena Ser have suggested Barcelona to take a look at Tottenham Hotspur’s Pierre-Emile Højbjerg in January.
After being a regular at the north London club for the past few years, the midfielder has seen his game time restricted under Ange Postecoglou.
Therefore, the 28-year-old has been linked with a move away from Tottenham for the vast majority of this season due to his lack of game time.
Having lost Gavi for the foreseeable future with a serious knee injury, Barca are looking for his replacement, to give Xavi Hernández enough options in the midfield. The La Liga side are now asked to look at Højbjerg as an option to replace their star.
On Højbjerg, the radio station’s international football expert, Bruno Alemany, says: “He is more of a pivot, although he [can arrive] and it would be to release De Jong or another interior more.”
Alemany’s colleague Manolo Romero explains: “Good option. Atlético de Madrid wanted to sign him this summer.”
However, Barcelona football coordinator Bojan Krkić is well aware it won’t be easy to negotiate a deal with Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy, and brought the pair back down to earth a bit.
“For me, you have hit the target with this footballer. Levy is the toughest owner to negotiate with. He knows how to negotiate,” he added.
