Shakhtar Donetsk fitness coach Carlo Nicolini has told TV Play that Mykhailo Mudryk’s failure to shine at Chelsea is down to the Premier League side’s struggles.
The Blues reportedly invested an initial fee of €70m to sign the winger from the Ukrainian club at the start of this year. Mudryk was impressing at Shakhtar but hasn’t managed to replicate the same form at Chelsea just yet.
The Ukraine international scored his first goal for Chelsea in their league win over Fulham in October. Since he joined the west London club, he has two goals and two assists from 28 games.
Mudryk, however, continues to impress while with the national team as he has two goals and two assists to his name in the last six games. The Italian coach, who has been at Shakhtar since 2020, has urged Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino to build confidence in the player.
“Mudryk needed to take one more step there, then the war happened. He went to Chelsea which, however, is not a team, in these contexts, even the individual struggles,” he said.
“In the national team you can see the real Mudryk, he can do even more. He must find the right environment and a coach who gives him confidence. He has everything to rock, I hope he can show it because he is really strong.”
Nicolini spoke to TV Play prior to Italy’s goalless draw against Ukraine on Monday, and the Blues attacker played the full 90 minutes for his country.
