Brighton and Hove Albion defender Joël Veltman has again insisted he is happy at the Seagulls despite consistent calls for Ajax to bring him back to the club.
Veltman is set to return to his former club this week as Brighton take on the struggling Dutch giants in the Europa League, leading him to talk to Soccer News and presenter Anouk Hoogendijk.
He’s regularly been linked with a return to his former club over the last few months as their struggles in the Eredivisie have led to calls for them to bring back players who know and love the club.
With structural changes taking place throughout the club and signings expected in January, the Brighton man is a player who could, and many believe should be on the list of targets.
It seems it’s not a priority at this moment in time, though, as he insists, he is happy at Brighton and enjoying their rise under Roberto de Zerbi.
“It feels strange to play against Ajax,” he said.
“Amsterdam feels like coming home. My family and friends live there. Hopefully they continue the good trend in the Eredivisie and get back on top. They just have to win games and then the confidence will come back naturally. They do have the quality.
“I have just extended my contract for two years, so for now I am good at Brighton. But never say never.
“You never know how things will turn out, especially at a club like Ajax and what is going on now. You don’t know, in the winter or next summer, but for now I’m here in my place.”
