Netherlands boss Ronaldo Koeman has admitted he is yet to make a decision over Brighton goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen and Brentford’s Mark Flekken.
The Netherlands boss has been speaking to Rondo on Ziggo Sport, relayed by Voetbal Primeur, regarding the goalkeeper situation for his nation.
He’s yet to settle on a new long-term goalkeeper for his side after they lost Justin Bijlow to injury earlier this year.
Koeman has been choosing between various goalkeepers since that point, initially going with Brentford’s Flekken before then handing Brighton’s Verbruggen his chance to impress during the last international break.
For many the Brighton goalkeeper is ahead of the Brentford man at this moment in time, particularly after Flekken put in somewhat ropey performances in the wins over Greece and the Republic of Ireland during his last two international appearances.
Koeman, though, insists no decision has been made and won’t be until he speaks with goalkeeper coach Patrick Lodewijks.
“In the beginning, Jasper Cillessen was the goalkeeper,” he said.
“Later we had Bijlow. Justin got injured, then we had Flekken, Verbruggen… I haven’t decided yet who will keep goal against Ireland.
“I am not a coach who waits for training. They all still play matches. I’ll talk to Patrick about that. If I don’t have the same feeling as him, I wouldn’t choose that person.”
