Manchester City goalkeeper Stefan Ortega has insisted he is more than happy at the club, playing down an idea of a move away from the Etihad.
The goalkeeper has been speaking to Sports Illustrated in Germany about his time at Manchester City so far, having joined Pep Guardiola’s side on a free transfer from Arminia Bielefeld last year.
He arrived knowing he would play a back up role to Ederson and that proved to be the case, as he made just 14 appearances in total across the campaign and only three in the Premier League.
He was very much the cup goalkeeper, starring in Manchester City’s FA Cup win as well as the group stages of the Champions League.
That led to some speculation about his future at the club, with the belief that he may look to be a number one elsewhere and even claims that Bayern Munich were interested in him as they looked for a temporary solution between the posts.
It was something that Guardiola spoke about at various points, admitting they had no intention of selling but couldn’t refuse to do so if the player wanted it.
It seems, though, Ortega has no plans to do that as he’s more than fallen in love with life in Manchester so far.
“When I moved from Arminia Bielefeld to Manchester City last year, I lived in the hotel for the first few days,” he said.
“I was curious about the surroundings, but also felt a little lost in the still unknown city. Until I discovered the “Old Wellington” on a walk, a cozy pub in a half-timbered house, right next to the National Football Museum.
“As soon as I was standing at the counter, a guest spoke to me, and small talk developed.
“I immediately felt welcome and experienced for the first time the warmth and helpfulness typical of northern England. “The weather is cold, but our hearts are warm,” say Mancunians. I can absolutely confirm that.
“Winning my first trophy as a starting goalkeeper in the FA Cup was my highlight this year. My assessment in my new home is entirely positive: I feel very comfortable here, my wife Sabina and our daughter are also doing really well.
“And I’m looking forward to showing some friends around the city. Of course, we will also stop off at “Old Wellington” on our tour.”
