Arsenal coach Albert Stuivenberg could be the ideal man for Ajax to replace manager Maurice Steijn, should he be sacked as expected.
That’s according to journalist Mikos Gouka, who has named the Arsenal man as a potential option the Dutch giants should be looking at.
The current Ajax boss appears to be on the brink of losing his job after a disastrous start to the season that sees Ajax sitting 17th in the table with just one win from seven games in the league so far.
The belief is that he will be sacked sooner rather than later, particularly as the club restructures behind the scenes too, with Louis van Gaal recently returning as an advisor.
He was part of Van Gaal’s backroom team during his time at Manchester United, working as assistant manager from July 2014 to May 2016, and Gouka believes that could lead to him being considered.
“The Ajax game must of course be the Ajax game. Then you need a trainer who knows how to create patterns for attacking football,” he said in a discussion on the AD Voetbalpodcast, relayed by Voetbalzone.
“I don’t know whether he would do it, but Albert Stuivenberg, who sits very close to Arteta at Arsenal, would be someone who would teach football. But I have no idea whether he would want that.
“Stuivenberg was also with Van Gaal at Manchester United. I don’t know if it was 100% satisfactory on both sides, so I don’t want to suggest that they clashed, but he was no longer affiliated with Van Gaal after that.
“But Van Gaal knows what he can offer. In terms of profile, I think that would be a good one for Ajax.”
